<description>A study by Age Concern has shown a reduction in podiatry services for those over 65 and that:-

 - 1 in 3 people over 65 years old can't manage their own toe nails

- 1 in 5 struggle to walk more than 200 metres without discomfort and having to stop

Most NHS podiatry services no longer provide toenail cutting services for people when their general health is good. (So they do not have reduced circulation, reduced feeling in their feet or gross deformities.) Age is no longer seen as reason to have your nails and feet cared for.

With private podiatry care costing between &#163;15-30, many are finding this too expensive and their feet are becoming neglected and nail overgrown. To a person whose mobility may already be effected long and overgrown nail can lead to a tripping hazard and the risk of a nasty fall.

Budgets within all NHS services are continually being reduced with savings having to be made. Unless services such as podiatry are provided with more funding by the departent of health, the possibility of providing services to all will continue to be difficult.
